Paris’s first retrospective exhibition of the German artist
The 11 Conti – Monnaie de Paris is organising Paris’s first retrospective exhibition of the German artist ThomasSchütte, which will be held in its courtyards and interior spaces. Since the 1980s, Schütte has been one of the leading artists in the process of reinventing sculpture and today is a major and unclassifiable figure.
The many media he uses (sculpture, installation, photography, painting, drawing) are matched by a variety of genres: portraiture, still lifes and landscapes.
The exhibition will be in three acts/parts – women, men and architecture – and present his disturbing and darkly humorous analysis of how society is organised and its impact on individuals. “My works have the purpose of placing a crooked question mark in the world”.
It will be organised by Camille Morineau, the Exhibitions and Collections Director.
