The 3 drawings in this collection represent the various monuments in the background, divided into two parts. On the left is the monument in all its splendour, and on the right is a schematic representation of the structure to evoke its construction and reconstruction. For Notre-Dame, the front reveals a medieval stonecutter, symbolising the craftsmen who worked on the construction. The Colosseum features a Roman mermaid facing a lion. Finally, the Shuri Castle coins feature a woman in traditional dress, wearing a richly decorated kimono. The reverse is common to the UNESCO series.

In 2025, Monnaie de Paris is dedicating its UNESCO series to three historic monuments: Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Coliseum in Rome and Shuri Castle. These buildings, erected in different eras, share a common destiny of grandeur, destruction and rebirth.

In engraving these three monuments, I sought to capture not only their architectural grandeur, but also the soul of their history. Every detail on these pieces reflects a moment of reconstruction, a gesture of rebirth. For me, it's a reminder that, no matter what the trials, the heritage we build can always rise from the ashes.
