    Description

One year after Valery Giscard d’Estaing’s passing away, Monnaie de Paris chooses to pay tribute to the former President of France, who led the country from 1974 to 1981. Giscard d’Estaing was eager to modernise France and passed away on the 20th december 2020, after a life dedicated to French citizens.

France owes him several reforms which deeply changed society : he lowered the voting age to 18 and supported divorce by mutual consent. One powerful reform of his term in office was the decriminilization of abortion, implemented by his Health Minister, Simone Veil.

Resolutely European, he promoted the consolidation of relationships between Germany and France and the establishment of the monetary union.

This miniset contains the 8 French circulating coins dated 2021, and minted in Brilliant Uncirculated quality.

    Our craftman

    • THE ENGRAVER

Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.

    • THE MINTER

The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
