Museums Masterpieces, Liberty leading the people

In 2023, the Museum Masterpieces series illustrates 3 major works featuring women in art, including one of Eugène Delacroix's most famous works: Liberty leading the People.

Linking three works from different eras, by different artists is a challenge for the printmaking workshop with the desire to celebrate women as artists or muses.

Emblematic coins

The face of this coin depicts Eugène Delacroix's famous 1830 work, with a focus on Gavroche and Marianne waving the French flag. A new vision of the allegory of Liberty, she is a lively and spirited daughter of the people, embodying revolt and victory. Wearing a Phrygian cap, with her hair floating down her neck, she evokes the revolution of 1789, the sans-culottes and the sovereignty of the people. The Louvre Museum, where the work is exhibited, is an integral part of the design as it represents one of the sides of the frame on the face of the 50 euro gold, 50 euro silver and 10 euro silver coins.
