Guernica by picasso

In 2020, Picasso's Guernica is featured along with Hokusai's The Wave and Van Gogh's Self-Portrait in a series of rectangular gold and silver coins in reference to the original work.

Created in 1937 in Picasso's parisian studio, Guernica depicts the horror of the bombing of the Basque town of the same name on 26 April 1937 by the German and Italian air force, allies of General Franco in the Spanish civil war. The gigantic work (349.3cm x 776.6cm) is reproduced on the coins.
