Hello Kitty was born on 1 November 1974 in the suburbs of London.
She's as tall as five apples, her major signature consists in a red ribbon that she always wears on her left ear, and she has a very big heart. Her favourite word is friendship! As Hello Kitty always says, "you can never have too many friends!”
Over the years, she has become one of the most unique pop characters, a symbol of the Japanese kawaii tradition, a global social icon and a source of inspiration for everyone.
To mark her 50th anniversary, Monnaie de Paris is paying tribute to this iconic character by minting collector coins featuring the one and only Hello Kitty.
The obverse of the coin features a Hello Kitty with a special 50th birthday ribbon. A cake is also present to celebrate her birthday.
On the reverse, ribbons, the main signature she still wears on her left ear. The words "50th Anniversary" are also present as a reminder of her birthday. Hello Kitty holds the face value, the words "RF" and the year 2024 are present on the coin.
The Collection
Born in 1974, Hello Kitty has become a pop icon symbolisingJapanese culture. Monnaiede Paris has decided to celebrate this icon and her world with its new collection. Don't miss this exceptional opportunity to celebrate 50 years of Hello Kitty in style and elegance!
In this collection, it's not just the General Engraver who expresses himself, but also the grandfather that I am! We had a lot of fun representing this endearing character that my granddaughters adore. Beyond this personal aspect, the graphic interest of this collection was to see Hello Kitty move from one cut to another according to the coins; she is sometimes Japanese in traditional dress and then becomes a perfect Parisian, showing the range of different outfits she has worn over the last 50 years.

Our craftman
THE ENGRAVER
Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.
THE MINTER
The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
