The DS, a 70-year-old icon

70 years ago, the DS was unveiled at the Salon de l'Automobile, shattering aesthetic codes with its unprecedented lines. Its avant-garde curves and revolutionary comfort have left their mark on automotive history. To celebrate this anniversary, Monnaie de Paris is offering a commemorative coloured coin, accompanied by a cardlet. A unique tribute to the innovation and timeless elegance of the DS.

I’m truly excited to present this coin dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the DS, a car that I am passionate about and that holds a special place in my heart, especially since I own one myself. The DS is a true symbol of French design and craftsmanship, with its unique lines and revolutionary comfort. When designing it, I wanted to capture that elegance and innovation that have influenced generations and turned it into a legend.

The design

This commemorative coin features two emblematic models: the DS 23, the last model to be produced in 1975 with its pivoting headlights, and the DS 19 launched in 1955. These models illustrate the stylistic evolution of the DS. The pivoting headlights, a first in the history of the car, are represented and highlighted by colouring as if they followed the movement of the road, lighting up the night.
