    Description

Since 1935, DC, part of Warner Bros. Discovery, has been creating iconic characters and enduring stories, and is one of the world's leading publishers of comics and graphic novels. DC's creative work entertains audiences of all generations around the world with DC stories and characters.

In 2025, to celebrate 90 years of DC COMICS, Monnaie de Paris is honoring the iconic characters of the DC COMICS Universe. From Batman, the Dark Knight, to Superman, the Man of Steel, including Wonder Woman, the Amazon Warrior, are all represented on the coins.

This exceptional collection of gold and silver coins is inspired by the comics and features the superheroes of DC COMICS. Each coin captures the essence and super-power of these iconic characters thanks to detailed engraving and intense colors, and will transport you into this legendary universe.

Over the decades, these characters have evolved: the realistic, detailed representations of modern comics have replaced the simple, colourful lines of the early days, and each period has enriched their graphic universe. Today, DC Comics continues to captivate millions of fans around the world, perpetuating this exceptional heritage.

Superman, the first superhero, made his debut in 1938, wearing a blue and red costume. He embodies the strong values of hope and honor.

Sent to Earth from the dying planet of Krypton as a baby, Kal-El was found by farmers, Martha and Jonathan Kent, and raised as their son, Clark. As Clark grew up, the radiation from Earth's yellow sun gave him extraordinary powers, which he kept hidden. Now, fully grown, he uses his powers to protect his adopted world as Superman.

The Man of Steel is virtually invulnerable and has the powers of super-strength, super-speed, and flight. He also has enhanced senses, including heat vision, X-ray vision, super-hearing, and super-breath.

The obverse represents Superman in different styles that trace his graphic evolution, enhanced by the colors that highlights his iconic costume.

The reverse of this collection features a comic-book-style representation of the Justice League with the words "90 years old". The reverse also features the face value of the coin and the initials of the French Republic.

    The Collection

In 2025, to mark the 90th anniversary of DC Comics, Monnaie de Paris is honouring the iconic characters of the DC Comics Universe. This collection of gold and silver coins is inspired by comic books and features DC Comics superheroes and super-villains.

For me, this DC Comics collection is much more than a simple tribute: it's a plunge into the world of timeless heroes who embody hope, justice and resilience. It awakens my childhood memories of leafing through the comics that inspired and fascinated me. Each meticulously engraved piece captures the essence of these legends, combining art, technique and an immense pride in helping to pass their magic down through the generations.

    • THE ENGRAVER

Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.

    • THE MINTER

The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
