Chinese calendar - year of the tiger

The Chinese Calendar Collection, launched in 2018, offers again this year a series of gold and silver coins with the effigy of a Chinese zodiac sign. After the dog, the pig and the rat, and finally the Ox, it is a sign that symbolizes the power and courage that is honored in 2022: the Tiger.

Creating the Chinese calendar collection is always an exercise in mysticism. We have to pay tribute to the lunar calendar while at the same time bringing a French touch to it, creating this mixture of cultures. Added to this are the character traits linked to the signs, which we try to translate into a kind of anthropomorphism represented by the attitude we express through each animal!

Emblematic coins

The third sign of the chinese zodiac, the tiger symbolizes power. It is represented here in the centre of the piece which is surrounded by a circle of traditional chinese motifs. The ideogram of the tiger, traced by a master of chinese calligraphy, is inscribed to the left of the animal. A new quarter coin is produced for this collection. The tiger is depicted in a childish manner, surrounded by lanterns and plum flowers, a recurring symbol in Chinese history and art. On the reverse, all the animals of the Chinese zodiac, drawn in a childish way, are distributed around the symbol of Ying and Yang.
