    Description

One year after the passing of Uderzo, the Monnaie de Paris wanted to pay tribute to the creator and illustrator of the most famous Gaulish character: Asterix.

The year 2021 also marks the release of the new album of the saga: "Asterix and the Griffin". In this new adventure, the two Gauls and their druid Getafix are about to embark on a long and mysterious journey.

This very limited blister pack celebrates the launch of the 39th album of the winged Gaul: Asterix and the Griffin. On the front of the blister, we find Uderzo's characters, illustrated in this new opus of Asterix's adventures.

On the obverse of the mini-medal, we find the Gallic with the winged helmet facing a strange and worrying figure, with impressive fangs and a beak of a bird of prey. But what is this strange creature ? The reverse of the blister is numbered and includes a short introduction to the album.

    The Collection

After the launch of the first collection celebrating the release of the new album Asterix and the Griffin in 2021, the Monnaie de Paris continues to honour one of the emblematic figures of the French comic strip at the heart of this new innovative monetary collection.

Translating comic book characters is an interesting but perilous exercise. The transition from comic strip to volume must faithfully transcribe the clear line of Uderzo’s and Conrad‘s work. These medals are the faithful representation of a graphic line proper to the french artist, it is a tribute in three dimensions paid by the craftsmen of Monnaie de Paris to the universe of Asterix.
