Aviation and History - Curtiss P-40 Warhawk

In 2023, Monnaie de Paris honors the Curtiss P40 Warhawk, an American fighter aircraft that operated during the Pacific battles of World War II. Recognizable by its shark's mouth paint job, this aircraft was widely used by the United States Army Air Force (USAAF).

Emblematic coins

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was the third most produced fighter aircraft in the United States during World War II. It first flew in 1938 and remained the only valid and widely available fighter in the U.S. Air Force until 1943. The face of this coin depicts it in combat over a rice field against a Japanese aircraft, symbolizing its involvement in the Pacific during World War II. The reverse side of the series features two pilot profiles symbolizing different eras and types of use, civilian and military.
