Aviation and history - spitfire

Launched in 2017, this year’s Aviation and History collection celebrates the Supermarine Spitfire. A British single-seater fighter widely used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

In particular, the Spitfire contributed to the Allied victory in the Battle of Britain, from July 1940 to May 1941, against the Luftwaffe, the German air force.

Pilot and author of comic books specializing in aviation, Romain Hugault once again collaborated with the master engraver of Monnaie de Paris, Joaquin Jimenez, for the development of this new series of gold and silver coins.

Two Spitfire silver coins of 10€ and 50€ are offered in this series.

Emblematic coins

Two Spitfires, launched at full speed, decorate the obverse of the coins; while we distinguish, in the background, a landscape representing the english coasts, near Dover. The mention "80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain", also written in French, refers to the main theatre of operations of the aircraft.
