Jacques-Jean Barre (1793-1855) was an active participant in the development of coin and medal art during his time. As the 17th chief coin engraver, we owe the creation of many coins to him, as well as commemorative medals and tokens, stamp moulds and, in 1848, the first series of French postal stamps.
