The Summer Olympic games that will take place in Paris in 2024 are the opportunity, for Monnaie de Paris to celebrate this major international competition through a series celebrating Sport, its values and the athletes. Olympism and Paralympism will be highlighted on those products, struck in France in our art workshops.

In 2023, we are developing a collection of medallions representing the 26 letters of the Alphabet illustrated by 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports.

The ancestor of tennis is the game of paume, which originated in France. This game, invented in the 11th century, was played in the courtyard of a monastery, by hitting a ball with the palm of the hand and bouncing it off the walls and sloping sides. Tennis itself developed in the 19th century, this time in England. Historically, the presence of tennis at the Olympic Games is not very frequent, and it was not until 1988, in Seoul, that it made a definitive return.
