The art of the pen : dante alighieri

In 1321, the Italian poet Dante Alighieri died, leaving behind him a revolutionary and colossal work: The Divine Comedy. 700 years later, the Monnaie de Paris honours this key literary figure by including him in the new the new series "The Art of the Pen".

To evoke Dante is an incredible thing! His work is a powerful allegory of spirituality and a true initiation rite in itself. I had to evoke this aspect with a cosmogonic representation of heaven, purgatory and hell. Added to this is his fatherhood of the Italian language, which is a key point in his life. His native Tuscany is the most obvious and aesthetic expression of this!
