    Description

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Lucky Luke, Monnaie de Paris is honouring the world of Morris through a complete collection of coins and medals.
This series features original illustrations by Morris.

This coin set celebrates the 75th anniversary of the character created by Morris. We find here Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper facing the Colorado sunset. This drawing directly echoes the last cartoon board of the albums, where the steed goes towards the setting sun while singing. The logo of Monnaie de Paris and the comic strip logo are also visible on the obverse of the miniset, as well as the 8 coins arranged in a circle.

The reverse of the coin set shows the continuity of the visual present on the face as well as the details and characteristics of the coins. The representation in circle of the denominations is also visible on this side.

    The Collection

Monnaie de Paris unveils a collection dedicated to the universe of Lucky Luke, celebrating in 2021 the 75th anniversary of the lone cowboy, a few months after the release of the new album of the series, A Cowboy in high cotton.

Translating comic book characters is an interesting but perilous exercise. The transition from comic strip to volume must faithfully transcribe the clear line of Morris and Achdé's work. These coins and medals are the faithful representation of a graphic line proper to the Franco-Belgian artist, it is a tribute in three dimensions paid by the craftsmen of Monnaie de Paris to the universe of Lucky Luke.

    Our craftman

    • THE ENGRAVER

Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.

    • THE MINTER

The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
