Jacques chirac

Youngest member of the government when he was appointed Secretary of State in 1967, Minister of Agriculture from 1972 to 1974, Prime Minister of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing from 1974 to 1976, Mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995, then President of the Republic from 1995 to 2007, Jacques Chirac is one of the greatest figures of the contemporary French political scene. Passed away a year ago, on September 26, 2019, Monnaie de Paris paid tribute to him with the release of two 10€ and 20€ commemorative silver coins.

The face of the coins brings together a portrait of Jacques Chirac and two symbols referring to his career. An emblem of the French Republic which recalls its two presidential mandates; and the emblem of the Quai Branly museum -a Chupicuaro terracotta statuette- which refers to its investment in the project and its passion for the Primitive Arts. The reverse shows the facial value surrounded by two branches of oak and laurel, framed by three concentric hexagons. The 10€ silver coin is presented in a card on which we can see Jacques Chirac in front of the French flag. The back of the card sums up the man’s life and highlights his exceptional political career.
