French Excellence - Berluti

On the occasion of its French Excellence collection, Monnaie de Paris is partnering this year with Berluti, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
A dialogue between striking metal and leather work that gives birth to an original series, an alliance of two unique know-how.

Joaquín Jimenez, the General Engraver of Monnaie de Paris, has immersed himself in the history of Berluti to imagine a new collection combining the know-how of the two Houses.

We can see on the shaped coins patterns referring to the trademarks of Berluti: the insertion of a piece of leather; the Scritto, a technique of calligraphy through leather proper to Berluti; or the penny, which gave birth to the famous Penny Loafer model.

French Excellence: Berluti

The 5€ silver coin and 10€ gold coin refer directly to the penny that English students slipped under the tongue of their moccasin, in the 1920s, before going to the phone booth. They are slightly curved to fit the shape of the shoe and feature the coat of arms of Berluti. The obverse of the 10€ silver coin and 200€ gold coin presents the heel of a shoe, or the footprint that Berluti leaves in the masculine universe, struck by the emblem of the House and a reference to the Scritto. On the reverse, we also distinguish nail marks echoing the work of leather.
