    Description

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was America's third most produced fighter aircraft during World War II. It flew for the first time in 1938 and remained the only valid and available fighter in large numbers in the American air force until 1943. It served very honourably during most of the conflict, thanks to its low cost, its great ease maintenance and its great robustness.

The obverse of this coin depicts him in combat over a rice field against a Japanese aircraft, symbolizing his involvement in the Pacific during World War II.

The reverse, common to the series, features the profiles of two pilots, symbolising the different eras and types of use: civil and military. In the sky are several aircrafts, also representing the different eras and uses, in a tribute to the history of aviation.

    The Collection

This series on aviation and history has been designed to pay tribute to the planes that left the greatest marks on the history of aviation. From the Spirit of Saint Louis to the most modern planes such as the A380, all plane types and eras are featured.

    Our craftman

    • THE ENGRAVER

Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.

    • THE MINTER

The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
