    • A French symbol magnified by a modern and graphical treatment

After the Sower, Hercules, the Rooster and Marianne, Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to a new series from 2020 to 2022 : Nature of France. This last one highlights the beauty of the nature through three strong numismatic symbols : the oak, the laurel and the wheat.

In 2021, the laurel will be given pride of place. Synonymous with eternity, Laurel is also a symbol of glory and is closely linked to Victory. A part of French history, it is therefore a major element in numismatics.

On the obverse, the laurel leaves triumphs as a close-up at the center of the coin. These leaves are linked with two laurel branches, which surround this set to recall the laurel wreaths. In the upper part, we can see the French Republic motto : « Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité ». The 2021 yeardate is on the left side, between leaves in close-up and the laurel branch. A beaded design making the outline of the coin gives it some elegance reminding old french coins designs.

The reverse is common to the series. It shows the three symbols of nature presented through the series : the oak, the laurel and the wheat. An hexagon representing France is inserted in the design. The laurel branch on the left and the oak branch on the right decorate this hexagon. We can find the wheat ear at the center of the reverse. It is crowned by the face value and surrounded by the mention « République Française ». We can see the engravings on both sides of the laurel and oak branches stalks. A beaded design making the outline of the coin gives it some elegance reminding ald french coins designs.

    The Collection

The purpose of the Institutional Gold and Silver Euros series is to highlight a strong numismatic symbol. For the next three years, we have chosen to honour three natural symbols whose engravings have shaped the French monetary landscape: the Oak, the Laurel and the Wheat.

    Our craftman

    • THE ENGRAVER

Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.

    • THE MINTER

The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
