Asia NOW - Paris Asian Art Fair will celebrate its 8th edition at a new location: the Monnaie de Paris. A dialogue between contemporary works and this historical jewel in the heart of the city will unfold over this vast site, on the Left Bank of the Seine, a short walk from the Louvre and the Bourse de commerce – Pinault collection.

Asia NOW is the only art fair that explores the art scenes from West Asia to Southeast Asia to East Asia, across more than forty countries, from Central Asia to the Subcontinent and the Asia -Pacific region.

This year, Asia NOW brings together 88 international galleries – double previous years – presenting a selection of the best emerging and established artists from these territories and their diaspora.

As every year, Asia NOW offers a sharp selection of galleries from Europe (PERROTIN, Michael Fuchs Galerie, In Situ - Fabienne Leclerc, galerie frank elbaz, Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Almine Rech Gallery, PARIS-B...) as well as from Asia (De Sarthe, Ora-Ora and Over

The Influence from Hong Kong, Bank from Shanghai, Chi-Wen from Taipei, Yeo Workshop and Yavuz galleries from Singapore).

Asia NOW continues its strong creative programming ethos, with exhibitions, in situ installations, performances, roundtables, award ceremonies and book launches.

Some of the most provocative international artists, curators, museum directors, publishers and collectors will contribute to probing relevant issues of creation today: contemporary art and so-called traditional or artisanal know-how, creation in times of crisis, sustainability as part of artistic practice, reinvestment in ceramics, collective artistic practices, NFTs and the Metaverse, in situ and contexts of appearance of the works.

Asia NOW engages with the issues and conflicts that affect the world and reaffirms its support for those who suffer from them. In particular, the floor will be given to Artists at Risk in support of refugee artists. To underscore the fair’s vision of art as a vector of citizenship, Asia NOW has once again commissioned Thanks for Nothing to curate its platform of round tables to it for the second year.

Alexandra Fain, founding director of Asia NOW, entrusted the artistic direction of this edition to Kathy Alliou, director of the Department of Collections and Exhibitions program at les Beaux-Arts de Paris.

The title of this edition, "Feux de Joie" (after a title by the artist Natsuko Uchino) Flames of Joy summons the emblematic fire arts of minting coins and metal (which has occurred at La Monnaie for a millienium) as much as the practice of ceramics, one of the highlights of this edition. In a context of global crisis, the aspiration for joy, one of the most fundamental and complex emotions, can contribute to rekindling a sense of the collective experience of living together.

Carte Blanche has been given to curator Nicolas Trembley. His exhibition Mingei Asia NOW, supported by maison Sisley, updates the legacy of the influential early 20th-century Japanese arts and crafts movement Mingei in the practices of contemporary artists from across Asia who value the beauty of the simplicity of everyday objects.

do it – China 2021 edited by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Cao Dan, published by CITIC Sight Press (bilingual Chinese/English) will be officially released for the first time in Europe during Asia NOW.

Among the most celebrated artists of their generation, Lu Yang will offer a set of videos and Kara Chin will present an installation of works combining animated video, ceramics and sculptures. Trevor Yeung and Natsuko Uchino will produce in situ works specifically conceived and produced to echo the Monnaie's heritage setting. Artist Cai Guo-Qiang will present his first NFT project “Your Daytime Fireworks”, supported by TRLab.

Inspired by the centuries-old form of the amphora, the Amphoreus project, presented by the art farm 91530 Le Marais, will bring together works by contemporary artists Lei Sato, Simone Fattal, Mai-Thu Perret, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy and Natsuko Uchino.

Asia NOW provides a platform for the most captivating artistic scenes and events across South and South East Asia, such as the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and the Dakha Art Summit, which will present their European previews of their programs at Asia Now.

This 8th edition seals the partnership of Asia NOW with Asia Society-France.

October 20, the VIP preview day, will feature live performances by artists Nikhil Chopra, Neda Razavipour, Ayako Rokkaku.

Asia NOW's annual off-site contemporary curating program with the Musée national des arts asiatiques - Guimet continues with an exhibition of photographs by Anne de Henning covering the Bangladesh liberation war, supported by the Samdani Foundation, to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, as well as an exhibition of the work of Indian photographer Ram Rahman. As part of Asia Now’s contemporary program at the museum, the fair’s Carte Blanche curator Nicolas Trembley will also curate the first exhibition devoted to ceramics by Wifredo Lam, a Cuban artist of Chinese descent, in a dialogue with the Qing ceramics in the Musée Guimet’s collection
