The art of the pen : molière

In 2021, the Monnaie de Paris inaugurated a new series around literary styles and authors who have marked the history of literature in France and abroad. After celebrating poetry in 2021, the Monnaie de Paris is highlighting theatre for the 2022 vintage by celebrating the 400th anniversary of the birth of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière.

Emblematic coins

On the front of the coin is a profile of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière. The hair of France's most famous playwright merges with the curtain of the stage. Two of his most emblematic characters are also illustrated with the Comédie Française theatre, namely the Bourgeois Gentilhomme and the Miser.
