The Sower, the new franc

The Sower, the new franc
Initiated in 2014, the Semeuse series highlights some of the currencies that have marked the history of France. In 2020, the "new franc" is being honoured.
Put into circulation in 1960 to put an end to the increasing devaluation of the franc, the new franc allows France to simplify the convertibility of its currency with a value fixed at 180 milligrams of fine gold. To show the will for a return to a stable currency, it was decided to strike the new franc with the image of the pre-1914 sower.

MONETARY REFORM
MONETARY REFORM
On the reverse, we can guess the profile of General de Gaulle, who launched the monetary reform on the eve of the French Fifth Republic. His portrait is accompanied by pieces of 1, 2 and 5 centimes "épi", as well as the sower of before 1914. The face also takes up the figure of the sower, but in a more contemporary setting: against the background of the French heraldic flag and the European flag with its 12 stars.
