The Little Prince – 80th anniversary

Monnaie de Paris is celebrating The Little Prince with a brand-new collection to mark the 80th anniversary of its publication in France. This series celebrates eight decades of adventure and exploration, highlighting the various modes of transport that punctuate his journey. Aeroplanes, planets, compasses, telescopes and luggage are thus interwoven in original designs that invite the viewer to dream and escape.

The Little Prince is a regular visitor to the engraving workshop at the Monnaie de Paris, and it’s always a pleasure to see him again and to reinvent myself alongside him! Every time I draw him, my affection for the world imagined by Saint-Exupéry is renewed. It is no coincidence that his character remains so relevant 80 years after his first appearance: the aviator knew how to write things that are timeless.

Emblematic coins

This collection comprises three coloured 10-euro silver commemorative coins. They feature The Little Prince sitting with the fox on his planet, travelling on an open book, or in a biplane reminiscent of those flown by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. These three designs are also available as three 50-euro gold coins. The collection also includes 5-euro, 200-euro and 500-euro gold coins. On the reverse, the 80th-anniversary logo of The Little Prince, featuring the character’s bust resting on his hand in front of the number 80, sits above the face value.
