The Hotel des Invalides and the Grand Palais
In 2015, Monnaie de Paris celebrates two places that have marked French history, one as a work and cradle of Art, the other as a military edifice.
Created in 1670 under Louis XIV’s reign, the Hôtel des Invalides is intended to host war veterans. Today the Hôtel is designated historical monument and a symbolic place of national memory.
The Grand Palais was conceived for the 1900 Great Exhibition. It is inspired by several drawings. Exhibition venue or military hospital during the First World War, the monument was designated historical monument in 2000.
