An icon in the combat for women’s rights, Simone Veil, born Jacob, left us in June 2017 at the age of 89. After surviving deportation to Auschwitz, she went on to become one of the most important actors in Europe’s building. She was the first elected president of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1982. She symbolizes the depenalization of the abortion she fought for with the law bearing her name voted in 1975. In 2008, she is elected at the French Academy.
She will receive the rare honour of a burial the 1st July at the Pantheon in Paris.

Showing Simone Veil speaking in the European Parliament and also the Patheon of Paris, this coin set into blister is composed by different coins of the 2018 year and included the 2€ commemorative coin Simone Veil. The 8 denominations of this set are struck in « Brilliant Uncirculated » (B.U.) quality, corresponding to a uniform shining of the coin. According to international manufacturing standards, this quality is reserved to coins that never circulated, keeping their  novelty brightness.

The obverse of the €2 coin displays a portrait of Simone Veil; her deportation registration number appears on her collar. The background depicts the European Parliament on which her key dates, name and RF are inscribed. The yeardate is on the right-hand side, whereas the mintmarks are on the lower part.

The reverse of the coin is that of a standard €2 coin, found throughout all countries of the eurozone. The face value “€2” appears in front of a map of Europe.
