Surronded by a circle of traditional Chinese motives, a pig is featured in the center of the coin. He goes through the coin using the door displayed on the reverse. The animal’s ideogram appears on the pig itself. The reverse shows all the animals of the Chinese zodiac. They are all featured on a screen surronding a traditional Chinese temple door. To glorify the new design, Monnaie de Paris strike the 20€ 1 Oz Silver coin in high relief, fifteen time higher than the regular coins, highlighting the animal in the center.
Chinese calendar - year of the pig
Since 2017, Monnaie de Paris began a new cycle of 12 years dedicated to the animals of the Chinese calendar. A new series glorified by a 20€ 1 Oz Silver coin striked in high relief, a technique which allows to strike coins with an increased relief. After 2018, the year of the Dog, 2019 will be the year of the Pig.
