Chinese calendar: Year of the Ox
Launched in 2018, the Chinese Calendar collection offers, each year, a series of gold and silver coins bearing the effigy of the signs of the Chinese zodiac. After the dog, the pig and the rat, the ox will be in the spotlight in 2021. The collection is characterized by a 20€ silver coin strucked in high relief. A technique that magnifies the coin with increased relief.
Moreover, following the appointment of Joaquin Jimenez as General Engraver of Monnaie de Paris, a new different is inserted on the coins starting from the 2021 vintage.

A NEW DIFFERENT
A NEW DIFFERENT
Following the appointment of Joaquin Jimenez as General Engraver of Monnaie de Paris, a new different will be inserted on the coins from the 2021 vintage. It consists of two nested squares. These earth signs symbolize the work and are superimposed on a stylized rhinoceros head representing the engraving workshop, conservatory of know-how and their rarity. A recurring theme in the history of art, the rhinoceros is described by Salvador Dalí as a "vault of knowledge, more massive, more sculpted and worked than a bronze plate".
YEAR OF THE OX
YEAR OF THE OX
Persevering, patient, stable and reassuring, the ox is the second sign of the Chinese zodiac. It appears in the center of the coin, coming out of two concentric circles decorated with traditional motifs. The ideogram of the ox is inscribed to the right of the animal. The reverse, common to the series, includes several traditional symbols. A temple door surrounded by a screen on which we find the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, as well as the facial value of the coin.
A HIGH RELIEF STRIKE
A HIGH RELIEF STRIKE
The 20€ 1 OZ silver coin is struck in high relief, a technique that allows to obtain a relief nearly 15 times higher than the usual relief, giving the impression that the animal leaves the coin.
