For the centenary of the end of World War I (1914-1918), Monnaie de Paris celebrates this historical event with a series of coins including a circulating coin of €2, silver face value coins and collector coins with the series “Men and Women in the Great War”. The coins honour peace and the end of the conflict.
The ¼ Oz Peace coin, is the first Fairmined gold coin issued by Monnaie de Paris. It figures a commitment of our institution to source Fairtrade gold. Fairmined is a label which guarantees a fair and responsible gold extraction. It attests that this gold is produced by autonomous small scale craft mines. The metal’s price is guaranteed at a fair price plus a premium for the local development. It is also protects the environment and the working conditions of the miners. Fairmined supplies gold to companies selling specific labelled products.

On the obverse, jubilation is portrayed by a parade of allied troops acclaimed by the crowd who has come to honour them...the parade continues on the reverse as if it turned around the Arc de Triomphe, which also emphasizes the reunification of soldiers with their families. The 10€ silver PROOF coins will be coloured for this theme.

On the obverse, the final assault is depicted as an allegory as it gradually becomes a flight of doves...and the sun appears on the reverse behind the bugler that calls for the cease-fire, like a symbolic break between the storm of fightings and the restored calm.

The obverse displays the bugler that called the cease-fire. The soldier wears multiple flags along with a Cornflower and a Poppy. The Arc de Triomphe is in the background, under which a returning soldier holds his child in his arms.

The obverse of the 2€ coin displays the French cornflower in front of a French flag in the background, using heraldry stripes to represent the blue and red. The BU and proof versions of the 2€ coin come with colour.

The Cornflower of Monnaie de Paris is made in 925‰ silver and is brighten up with light blue and royal blue resin coatings, traditional and original colors of the flower. At the back of the badge, Monnaie de Paris’ logo ensures it’s authenticity and it’s origin.
