The Summer Olympic games that will take place in Paris in 2024 are the opportunity, for Monnaie de Paris to celebrate this major international competition through a series celebrating Sport, its values and the athletes. Olympism and Paralympism will be highlighted on those products, struck in France in our art workshops.
In 2023, we are developing a collection of medallions representing the 26 letters of the Alphabet illustrated by 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Sitting volleyball is a variation of volleyball. It is played by two teams of six players who move around, using their arms, sitting on the floor. Sitting volleyball has existed since 1943 as a rehabilitation activity for injured soldiers. The sport was included in the Paralympic Games in 1980 for men and 2004 for women.
