The Summer Olympic games that will take place in Paris in 2024 are the opportunity, for Monnaie de Paris to celebrate this major international competition through a series celebrating Sport, its values and the athletes. Olympism and Paralympism will be highlighted on those products, struck in France in our art workshops.
In 2023, we are developing a collection of medallions representing the 26 letters of the Alphabet illustrated by 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports.
The marathon has been part of the Olympic Games since the first edition in 1896 in Athens. Women have only participated in this event since the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. Since the 1924 Games in Paris, all marathons have been run over the classic distance of 42.195 km. The current Olympic record is 2 hours 6 minutes 32 seconds for men and 2 hours 23 minutes 7 seconds for women.
