The Summer Olympic games that will take place in Paris in 2024 are the opportunity, for Monnaie de Paris to celebrate this major international competition through a series celebrating Sport, its values and the athletes. Olympism and Paralympism will be highlighted on those products, struck in France in our art workshops.
In 2023, we are developing a collection of medallions representing the 26 letters of the Alphabet illustrated by 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Gymnastics is a very old sport, with roots going back to antiquity. At that time, it was recommended by philosophers to combine the development of the body with that of the mind. The various apparatus require strength, agility, coordination and speed from the athletes. Gymnastics is one of the historic sports of the modern Games. Women's artistic gymnastics was included in the Olympic programme in 1928.
The Collection
Monnaie de Paris celebrates the Olympic and Paralympic Games with various innovative and new collections over several years, showcasing the sportsmen and the Olympic spirit. Collection coins, commemorative 2€, gold and silver Euro or medallions, these collections put the spotlight on the disciplines, places and icons of the Olympics.
