    Description

Monnaie de Paris is celebrating the upcoming Olympic Winter Games 2030, to be held in the heart of the French Alps, with a collection that highlights the spirit of Olympic tradition and continuity.

Symbolizing a new chapter for the Winter Games, this collection pays tribute to the passing of the flame to France and the momentum that will accompany the arrival of athletes and nations from around the world in the Alps.

The obverse of the coin depicts the handover between the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games and the French Alps 2030 Winter Olympics Games. Two athletes can be seen, one Italian on the left and one French on the right, recognisable by their wristbands in the heraldic colours of their respective countries. They are passing a snow crystal, symbolising the handover between the two editions. In the background, two mountains in the Alps represent the Winter Games in both countries. The mintmarks of Monnaie de Paris and Joaquin Jimenez are engraved on the obverse.

The reverse of the coin features the Italian (left) and French (right) flags in heraldic colours, as well as two mountains from the Alps. On the right is the emblem of the city of Milan, which is participating in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games, and the emblem of the city of Nice, which is participating in the French Alps 2030 Winter Games. The face value and year of issue are engraved.

    The Collection

To mark the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, discover our Handover collection celebrating the handover of the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony between the Milano-Cortina 2026 Games and those in the French Alps in 2030.

Through this collection, the Monnaie de Paris celebrates the transmission of Olympic values between the 2026 Winter Games in Milan-Cortina and those in the French Alps in 2030. The snow crystal baton is a nod to winter sports and symbolises the unique bond between two regions, united by sporting excellence, a spirit of sharing and the continuity of the Olympic adventure.

    Our craftman

    • THE ENGRAVER

Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.

    • THE MINTER

The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
