New National Sides Coin Set Brilliant Uncirculated quality Yeardate 2022
The year 2022 marks two major European events. The first of January 2022 celebrates the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the euro, replacing the franc and becoming at the same time the European currency of the member countries of the euro zone. In addition, France will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2022, 13 years after its last Presidency. It is in this conjunction of major events that the change of the national face of the French €1 and €2 currencies is taking place, two decades after the appearance of the European currency.
This miniset features the new design of the €1 and €2 coins, officially put into circulation for the 20th anniversary of the euro. It contains the 8 French circulating coins dated 2022 and minted in Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
This miniset contains the new €1 and €2 coins, designed by Joaquin Jiménez, Engraver General of the Monnaie de Paris. The new €1 coin is produced exclusively for this series as well as for the BE 2022 series.
Born of the desire to unify European territories and facilitate trade with a single currency, the euro was introduced by the signatory states of the Maastricht Treaty on 7 February 1992. Officially put into circulation at midnight on 1 January 2022, the euro sounded the death knell for the franc. Monnaie de Paris is celebrating the second part of the euro's anniversary in 2022 with a collection of gold and silver coins.
Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.
The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
