The Paris
2024 Mascot plays handball, looking determinedly at the opposing team's goal
and taking a shot to score a goal.
Handball
was first introduced to the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. It reappeared on
the Olympic programme twenty years later at the Munich Games in 1972, this time
in an indoor format on a 40m x 20m court where two teams of seven players
compete against each other, who can dribble the ball with their hands at most
every third touch, and keep the ball in their hands at most for three seconds.
The Collection
Monnaie de Paris celebrates the Olympic and Paralympic Games with various innovative and new collections over several years, showcasing the sportsmen and the Olympic spirit.
