With the ball at his
feet, the Paris 2024 Olympic Mascot focuses on making a shot that could be
decisive for his team.
Football was an early
addition to the Olympic programme, starting at the Paris Games in 1900, while
women's football made its Olympic debut at the Atlanta Games in 1996. Matches
are played on a grass pitch, 11 against 11, for two 45-minute halves. The
women's competition is no different from those organised by FIFA, which pit the
senior teams of qualifying countries against each other. The men's tournament
has a difference in the rules for the composition of the squad: only players in
the under-23 category can participate, with the exception of three older
players.
