International couples : charles de gaulle et winston churchill

This year the Monnaie de Paris celebrates the alliance between Great Britain and France during the Second World War symbolized by its two strong men: Charles de Gaulle and Winston Churchill. It was on June 28, 1940, following the call of June 18, that the British Prime Minister officially recognized De Gaulle as "leader of all the Free French".

Cette année la Monnaie de Paris célèbre l'alliance entre la Grande Bretagne et la France lors de la seconde Guerre Mondiale symbolisée par ses 2 hommes forts : Charles de Gaulle et Winston Churchill. C'est le 28 juin 1940, suite à l’appel du 18 Juin, que le Premier ministre britannique reconnaît officiellement De Gaulle comme « chef de tous les Français libres ».​

Their names are shown above their profiles. The French and British flags are represented in color with the mention RF in the first French flag and 80 years in the British flag referring to the 80 years of the Free France which was created in London. The reverse of the coins features France and Great Britain with a common background to highlight their alliance during World War II. The words "1941 2021 ANNIVERSARY OF FREE FRANCE" are affixed to the Lorraine Cross, symbol of Free France.
