The engraving on the obverse of this coin was created by the engraving workshop of Monnaie de Paris based on illustrations by comic book artist Romain Hugault.
On the obverse, the centre of the composition features a representation of the Concorde seen from above. In place of its right delta wing stands the Eiffel Tower, which, with its shape resembling that of the supersonic aircraft, blends perfectly with it. The fusion of these elements recalls both the nationality of the Concorde and its first take-off location. On either side of the central subject, vertical lines evoke the aircraft's blazing speed. The words “50 ans de la mise en service du Concorde” meaning ‘50 years since the Concorde entered service’ and the yeardate complete the design.
With a high face value, this coin will be worth at least its face value of €1,000, regardless of changes in the price of gold. The reverse side shows the face value of the coin, surrounded by a laurel and oak branch.
The Collection
The Monnaie de Paris is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Concorde's entry into service in 2026. The famous supersonic aircraft was launched on January 21, 1976, with two simultaneous flights departing from the partner countries that developed it: France and Great Britain. This collection, created in collaboration with designer Romain Hugault, immortalizes the Concorde amid its most iconic destinations: New York and Rio.
The year the Concorde entered service, I was a 20-year-old student starting art school with my head full of ideas. At the time, what young artist wouldn't have dreamed of drawing the Concorde! This magnificent metal bird will remain a symbol of both elegance in the air and a way of life that we cannot forget. Fifty years later, its sleek lines are still in my mind and can be expressed on metal to pay tribute to this golden age.

THE ENGRAVER
Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.
THE MINTER
The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
