      Description

      • The History of France revisited through its ancient currencies
      • First wave of the complete series of 18 pieces of 10€.

Monnaie de Paris has been minting the coins of the French since the year 864. Its treasures, which belong to the heritage, and its know-how are at the origin of this collection which, from Roman times to today, retraces the History of France in about twenty coins.

The Dagobert coin represents a gold Merovingian Triens, worth one third of a penny. In Dagobert's time, gold coins were the solidus (or sou), the semi (or half-sou) and the triens. A penny was worth 40 denarii of silver.

      Our craftman

      • THE ENGRAVER

Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.
