On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to these renowned international competitions through a collection honoring sport, its value, the athletes but also the host country's heritage. Olympism and Paralympism are celebrated.
The Olympic collection is not only about sport, but also about the heritage of the host country. Particularly for this edition, the games will be held in the heart of the city, which is why the iconic Parisian locations will be spotlighted.
In 2023, l’Hôtel national des Invalides will be presented. The Hôtel des Invalides is a Parisian monument built to house the invalids of its armies until 1937. It also houses the Saint-Louis cathedral, the Musée des Armées and a military necropolis with, in particular, the tomb of Napoleon I. It also houses a number of organisations dedicated to the memory of veterans and the support of wounded soldiers. It will host archery, para archery, athletics and road cycling.
The reverse side of the series shows a view of Paris where the Seine looks like an athletics track. The Eiffel Tower dominates the city and illuminates the competition.
