Animals occupy a central place in the collective imagination.
Whether familiar or distant, mysterious or majestic, they inspire a sense of fascination, respect and wonder in all of us. They bear witness to the beauty and diversity of life, as well as to the fragility of nature and the strength of the bonds we share with it.
In 2026, Monnaie de Paris is launching a collection dedicated to the world’s animals: pandas and koala, big cats, aquatic animals, exotic birds, polar animals and savannah animals.
These coins pay tribute to the richness of wildlife and celebrate our planet’s iconic animals, engraving in metal all the admiration and respect that humanity holds for them:
Pandas, red pandas and koalas have many things in common that make them very endearing. Calm and gentle, these animals are known for their close connection to their environment. Fascinating and sometimes fragile, they symbolise the beauty of an environment worth preserving.
There are several big cats, such as the lion, the tiger and the leopard, each with its own distinct character. Powerful and elegant, these animals embody both strength and power, as well as grace in the wild. Fascinating and formidable, they play a vital role in their ecosystem.
The ocean is home to a wide variety of creatures, each with its own unique characteristics, such as dolphins, sea turtles, clownfish and coral, and each plays a vital role in this ecosystem. Intelligent, graceful or colourful, these marine creatures form a rich and fascinating world. Indispensable to the balance of the seas, they live in ecosystems that are as beautiful as they are fragile.
There are many different birds around the world, such as parrots, ostriches and hummingbirds, and each has its own amazing characteristics. Whether colourful, majestic or tiny, these birds showcase the richness of nature. Fascinating and sometimes surprising, they play an important role in their environment.
There are various animals living in the polar regions, such as polar bears, penguins and seals, and each has its own unique characteristics. Whether powerful, agile or playful, these animals are perfectly adapted to the extreme cold. Fascinating and sometimes awe-inspiring, they play a vital role in their environment.
There are several iconic animals of the savannah, such as the elephant, the rhinoceros and the giraffe, and each has its own distinctive characteristics. Whether imposing, peaceful or slender, these animals captivate us with their diversity. Essential to the balance of their environment, they contribute to the richness of wildlife.
A wreath featuring symbols specific to each animal enhances the trio of depictions on each piece, like a family portrait.
The reverse shows the face value surrounded by two branches, one of oak and the other of laurel, evoking the Euro symbol. The entire reverse design is framed by ‘République Française’ and a collection of lines representing the Hexagon.
A box has been developed to contain the 6 €5 bicolor coins.
Number of full boxes: 3 000.
