    Since 1946, the newspaper L'Équipe has been covering the great history of sport. Founded February, 28th 1946, the daily newspaper quickly established itself as an essential reference, celebrating the achievements, emotions and universal values of sport. From the Olympic Games to Grand Slam tournaments, from the roads of the Tour de France to the pitches of the biggest stadiums, L'Équipe has accompanied every generation of sports enthusiasts. Through its legendary front pages, reports and feature stories, the newspaper has captured the essence of sport.

    In 2026, to celebrate L'Équipe's 80th anniversary, Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to the spirit of sport and those who write about it every day. This exclusive collection combines a passion for sport with the art of engraving, immortalising on these coins the emotions, disciplines and heroes that have marked generations of readers and supporters.

    The exclusive semi-full set, limited to 900 editions, contains the silver 80 years L'Équipe 2026 collection : the four 10€ Silver Proof coins Football, Rugby, Tennis, Formula 1.

    The Collection

    Since 1946, the newspaper L'Équipe has been chronicling the great history of sport. To celebrate the newspaper's 80th anniversary, the Monnaie de Paris is launching an exclusive collection that combines a passion for sport with the art of engraving, immortalising the disciplines and heroes that have left their mark on generations of readers and supporters. This first year will start with four sports and will continue in 2027 and 2028 with two new sports per year.

    This collection embodies the meeting of the art of engraving and a passion for sport. Each piece captures an iconic moment: the footballer taking a shot, the tennis player serving, the Formula 1 driver celebrating, the rugby player receiving the pass. Through these gestures, we pay tribute to 80 years of sporting emotions carried by L'Équipe and engraved forever by the Monnaie de Paris.

    Our craftman

    • THE ENGRAVER

      Trained at the best schools, they have the years of experience behind them necessary to master all aspects of the craft. Using industrial oil-based modelling clay and working from a design executed freehand or with CAD software, they skilfully fashion a low relief model in order to enhance the engraving and the way it catches the light. They work alternately with concave and convex plaster moulds until satisfied they have achieved the best 3D rendering of the design.

    • THE MINTER

      The first minters began to ply their trade in France when striking with a hammer appeared in the 4th century BC. Nowdays, minsters use press instead of a hammer. Their knowledge of dies, engraving and metals, and their expertise - passed seamlessly down from one generation to the next for centuries - guarantees the excellence of their work.
