The Summer Olympic games that will take place in Paris in 2024 are the opportunity, for Monnaie de Paris to celebrate this major international competition through a series celebrating Sport, its values and the athletes. Olympism and Paralympism will be highlighted on those products, struck in France in our art workshops.
In 2023, we are developing a collection of medallions representing the 26 letters of the Alphabet illustrated by 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Rugby is said to have roots dating back to the Middle Ages in various European countries. It was between 1845 and 1848 that its rules were codified, by students at Rugby City School and Cambridge University in Britain. While many variations of rugby have developed over the years, it is since 2016 that seven-a-side rugby has been played at the Olympic Games.
The Collection
